The energy gap has been documented for over half a century — one of the most studied events in dairy science. The behavioural fix took another decade to build and prove, on working US farms. It was ahead of its time when it began. Today, with EU programmes funding precision-livestock and climate agriculture, and fresh private capital entering the category, the moment and the method have finally met.

The future demands a cleaner, healthier, more productive, less resource-consuming and profitable animal agriculture — if an animal-protein diet is to be sustained. That starts with the most important 21 days in every dairy cow’s life.

Carrying forward the work of Dr. David Barcik.

The science was invented and validated by the late Dr. David Barcik across 10+ years on 6 US commercial dairy farms — and by the team he had a gift for gathering around him: researchers, vets and producers, half of them doctors. His son, R.T. Barcik — a software founder with prior exits, boardroom-to-barn — now leads the UK and EU commercialisation. The work continues, farm by farm.
